These are the mineralized remains of dinosaur bones. As with other fossils the original animal bone, shell or plant has been replaced by minerals or become petrified. Dolomite is a common mineral that can be found in massive beds several hundred feet thick. Found all over the world, it is often called dolomitic limestone. How the dolomite beds formed is unknown. Dolomite is not known to form on the surface of the earth currently yet large layers of dolomite can be found in ancient rocks.
